Just recently, the Regional Oversight Committee declared 27 barangays within Iloilo to be drug cleared. The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency spearheads the Regional Oversight Committee with members from the Department of Interior and Local Government, Department of Health, Philippine National Police, and Local Government Units.
To be declared ‘drug cleared’, the barangay should have the following as set by the Dangerous Drug Board: no illegal drugs supply, no transit or transshipment activity, no drug laboratory or clandestine chemical warehouse, no marijuana cultivation site, no drug den, no drug pusher, user or dependent, and no drug protector, coddler or financier.
The drug cleared barangays include the following:
City Proper: Danao, Flores, Gloria, Hipodromo, Kahirupan, Kauswagan, Legaspi De La Rama, Magsaysay, Maria Clara, Ortiz, Osmeña, President Roxas, Rizal Ibarra, and Veterans Village | Lapuz: Libertad | Arevalo: Mohon and Sta. Filomena | Jaro: Democracia, El 98 Castilla, Lopez Jaena, Our Lady of Fatima, Our Lady of Lourdes, San Jose, San Roque, Seminario | Mandurriao: Santa Rosa and Taft North
“I am very happy that 27 more barangays were drug-cleared by the oversight committee. I thank everyone for their support to this most important program,”states Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas, adding that the goal is to make all 180 barangays free of illegal drugs by next year.
