According to data presented by the Department of Tourism Region VI, more than 400k tourists visited Iloilo this year, specifically from January to July, in an article byPanay News. The exact number, 418,079 tourists – 400,640 domestic and 17,439 foreign – visited the City of Love. To add, tourism receipts reached Php 7.8 billion.
“These should help enhance existing tourism products, services and destinations as well as develop new ones,” states Atty. Helen Catalbas, Regional Director of the Department of Tourism Region VI. According to Catalbas, the figures are pivotal in guiding local government units to anchor tourism development plans. Top five visiting nationalities include Americans, South Koreans, Chinese, Canadian and Australians.
Iloilo places second to Aklan, as the latter province has Boracay drawing in more tourists. Bacolod, meanwhile, ranks third. Negros Occidental follows. Overall, Western Visayas has attracted 2,518,045 tourists, both domestic and foreign, this year from January to July.
