COVID Deaths Unvaccinated

Ninety-three percent of COVID deaths unvaccinated: The Iloilo City Government, in a social media post, reveals that 93% of COVID-19 deaths were unvaccinated, data as of the first week of August showed. These were the 226 deaths out of 243 deaths from January 1 to August 7 as verified by the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU) of the City Health Office (CHO).

Here are excerpts from the post.

“CESU noted that majority of the fully vaccinated who became COVID positive were asymptomatic and some had mild symptoms, while only few were with moderate symptoms, and very few or those with comorbidities experienced severe symptoms. The Department of Health (DOH) stressed: ‘data show that people who are fully vaccinated are protected against the severe symptoms of Covid-19 which may lead to hospitalization or death.’

Mayor Jerry Treñas has requested the national government for additional vaccines allocations as the supplies will be good only until Aug. 17, to prepare early for massive roll-out to reach as many people as possible amid threats of the more contagious Delta variant. The city has put a ceiling of up to 10,000 vaccinees a day as crowd-control while still under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) up to Aug. 15. With waiting time because of extended ECQ, Treñas reiterated to residents to stay home and get vaccinated when it’s their turn.

‘The nature of contagion and virulence of the Delta variant is such that vaccination has become an urgent necessity. With the vast capacity of our vaccination team and facilities, the only concern left is the vaccine supply,’ Treñas stated in a letter to National Inter-Agency Task Force. ‘It is our prayer that you act upon this humble request favorably and promptly that together, we may be instruments in increasing the people’s means of protection against the new relentless and more vicious strain,’ he added.
