The Iloilo City Government recently released Executive Order 086-A, amending the section on the sale and consumption of liquor and alcoholic beverages. The new EO states that for the duration of the MGCQ, the sale and public consumption of liquor after 8pm shall be prohibited.
In addition, establishments are prohibited from selling and dispensing liquor after 8pm. Moreover, the EO adds that the ban on the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages may be reimposed for any violation of law or ordinance related to the consumption of alcoholic beverages, without prejudice to the filing of appropriate charges in court, if the circumstances so warrant.
It can be recalled that – during the transition to GCQ and MGCQ – there had been incidents that led to the lifting and the reimposition of the ban. The most recent incident involves a drunk driver killing a medical frontliner and injuring three others in Mandurriao last May 24. The suspect was identified as an Indian national who was apparently intoxicated during the incident. Read more: Drunk Driver Kills Frontliner Week After Lifting of Liquor Ban
