Antique Confirms First COVID-19 Case


Antique confirms the first Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) case involving a 77-year-old man from Semirara Island. Antique Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao, in an official statement, said that the case arrived at Brgy. Semirara, Semirara Island, Caluya on March 09 via private plane.

The case first sought consultation at Semirara Mining Power Corporation Hospital for fever and difficulty breathing on March 19. The specimen was collected on April 02 and the result came back positive from the Western Visayas Medical Center Department of Pathology, Sub National Laboratory.

“The Provincial Government of Antique is officially announcing the first confirmed case of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the Province of Antique. The case is a 74-year-old, male, married and a resident of Paranaque City, Metro Manila,”states Antique Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao, in an official statement. To date, the patient is under strict home quarantine and in stable condition in Semirara Island, situated 159 km from mainland Antique.

“The Local Government Unit and other stakeholders were already appraised, and we are coordinating accordingly with the Provincial Government. Ongoing contact tracing and active case finding is now being conducted by the Municipality of Caluya in Barangay Semirara,” Governor Cadiao in the same statement.
