After the Inter-Agency Task Force released Resolution No 40, detailing the classification of provinces, highly urbanized cities, and independent component cities as recommended by the IATF Sub-Technical Working Group on data analysis, Iloilo City was amongst the areas recommended to remain under General Community Quarantine.
Moreover, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas, in an interview with Aksyon Radyo Iloilo, revealed that he will be making an appeal to the IATF to reconsider its decision and place Iloilo City under Modified General Community Quarantine.
“The Board of Directors of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce & Industry – Iloilo Chapter respectfully appeals to the IATF for its reconsideration of the latest classification of Iloilo City to remain under General Community Quarantine, effective June 01, while all other provinces and highly-unrbanized city in Western Visayas, including Iloilo Province, have been placed under Modified GCQ,” an excerpt from the appeal made by Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas.
The mayor cites the following reasons for the IATF’s reconsideration:
“As the economic center of Western Visayas, Iloilo City seriously needs to reinvigorate its business activities with the allowance of more sectors and industries to operate under MGCQ, provided that the City Government continues its earnest efforts of ensuring strict compliance to the health and safety protocols to ensure both the physical and financial well-being of our people,” the appeal concludes.
