Big Bad Wolf Iloilo: Books have become an integral part of our lives – providing information, entertainment, and inspiration. It has even become an extension of our selves reflecting our personalities. Here are some thoughts on books and the ongoing book sale.
Personally, I was surprised to find Matt Groening’s The Simpsons, one of the longest-animated comedies – since 1989. The book I found was a compilation of some of its episodes illustrated in comic form. Finding it brought me back to the old days when the sole entertainment I had was reading comic books. The Simpsons, despite its comedic form, share the value of family and camaraderie in the community. The characters might be fighting sometimes but every episode always ends in reconciliation.
In terms of comics, a portion of the Big Bad Wolf Sale is dedicated to Marvel Comics. Marvel Comics, over the years, birthed well-loved characters such as Spiderman, the Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Deadpool.
Shifting to other genres, art and music books are also available – “100 Photographs That Changed The World” (edited by Margherita Giacosa, et al) offers a historical journey through photographs. Pulitzer Prize-winning photograph ‘Napalm Girl’, for example, is included in this book. The photo illustrates a harrowing, yet powerful, story of pain, resilience, and survival from the Vietnam War in 1972 – and this is just one photo of the 100 photos/stories in the book.
Other books in this section include the following: “Birds of Instagram”, “Container Gardens”, Hand Made Baking: Recipes to Warm the Heart”, “Earth’s Magic Places”, and “Renaissance Renacimiente”, among others.
The book sale really provided an intensely vast collection of books.
Furthermore, to cater to a different age group, a Children’s Corner is also made available. Disney classics such as Snow White, Cinderella, Little Mermaid, Alladin, and Sleeping Beauty can be found here. Moreover, age-appropriate learning materials are also available.
After two successful runs in Manila and Cebu, Big Bad Wolf Books debuts its Book Sale in Iloilo. From October 13 to 23, 2023, Big Bad Wolf will transform SM City Iloilo into a haven for book lovers. The event is expected to welcome thousands of visitors with its vast collection of literature for which the book sale is popular for. Big Bad Wolf spared no effort in curating a diverse and extensive collection, offering a wide range of genres for all types of readers. To ensure a seamless browsing experience, collections will be displayed and spread across the whole lower ground floor of SM City Iloilo.
“We are thrilled to bring the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale to Iloilo for the first time,” said Andrew Yap, co-founder of Big Bad Wolf Books. “The warm reception from the people of Iloilo has exceeded our expectations, and it’s heartening to see the community’s enthusiasm for literature. Witnessing the joy on the faces of readers as they explore the vast world of books reinforces our belief in the transformative power of storytelling.”
With over two million books, from timeless classics to contemporary bestsellers, bookworms will also get exclusive deals, promos, and discounts of up to 95% off. Moreover, Big Bad Wolf partners with Metrobank as its official bank partner. As a special offer, Metrobank extends the privilege of 0% installment for 3 months for every minimum purchase of P3,000.
Furthermore, the brand’s CSR initiative, the Red Readerhood (RRH), partnered with Gawad Kalinga to extend the joy of reading to underprivileged communities. Book lovers can purchase from the book sale and donate it to the designated Red Readerhood booth. These books will then be donated to Gawad Kalingad’s Traveling Maleta Library, atop the Big Bad Wolf’s pledge of 1,000 books.
“We believe in the power of books to transform lives, and Red Readerhood is our way of sharing that belief with the community. Partnering with Gawad Kalinga has allowed us to channel our efforts towards making a positive impact beyond the joy of reading. Through this CSR initiative, we aim to not only provide access to books but also to contribute to the betterment of local communities,” said Carol Chuaying, BBW Philippine Partner.
