Cebu-Negros-Panay Backbone Project Energized

Cebu-Negros-Panay Backbone Project

Cebu-Negros-Panay Backbone Project Energized: More Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power Iloilo) highlighted the energization of the Cebu-Negros-Panay (CNP) 230-kilovolt (kV) backbone project, bridging Iloilo City and the rest of Panay Island to a wide network of energy sources.

The distribution utility attended the ceremonial energization at the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) Barotac Viejo Substation last April 08, 2024. With them is Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas.

MORE Power President and Chief Executive Officer Roel Castro commended the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines for completing the project.

“This marks significant relief for us at MORE Power and Panay Island. We commend the NGCP for this landmark accomplishment of the new Cebu-Negros-Panay (CNP) grid,” Castro said.

He also shared his thoughts on the January 02 incident. It may be recalled that Panay experienced several outages due to a grid disturbance following the unplanned shutdown of several power plants.

“While that does not yet promise the ultimate level of reliability, there is undoubtedly a significant stride towards improved reliability on Panay Island. For consumers, if before NGCP energized this new CNP project, there was a 50% chance of experiencing another 4-day blackout, now the probability is only 10-20%”, added Castro.

Moreover, in the recently concluded Philippine Electric Power Industry forum held in Iloilo City, Castro stressed the functions and responsibilities of distribution utilities.

“The consumers demand three things. Reliable electricity means blackout-free 24/7, sustainability, and affordability”, he states.
