In a statement released by Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas via the Iloilo City Government, Iloilo City will be on GCQ, instead of ECQ which was declared last night. However, the province remains to be under ECQ as advised by the Inter Agency Task Force.
“It is truly a welcome development that Iloilo City will be on General Community Quarantine (GCQ) effective May 1, 2020 following the announcement of Sec. Harry Roque just now. This after they checked with the Department of Health the figures in the city that place it on the list of moderate or low risk to COVID-19,” states Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas.
Under General Community Quarantine, relaxed quarantine measures are imposed according to the Inter Agency Task Force. Moreover, public transport may be allowed but in reduced capacity and 50% to 100% of select establishments may be reopened but still subject to minimum health standards. Furthermore, GCQ may be relaxed further for normalization starting May 16.
“This means we can impose more relaxed measures compared to the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ). We can now definitely finalize our exit plan as we look forward to bringing our city and our people to what we deem as a much better situation for all, after the burden brought about by the ECQ to most of us. I ask for everyone’s cooperation in this new phase. Let us continue to be safe and to care for each other as we implement the GCQ in Iloilo City. Batò Iloilo!”Treñas adds.
