Just recently, the Iloilo City Government shared security preparations for the upcoming Iloilo Dinagyang 2020. A poster revealing prohibited items and hotline numbers were shared via social media. Items such as a knife, ice pick, concealed bladed weapons, firearms, backpack, and alcoholic beverages in glass bottles will be prohibited during the entire Dinagyang 2020 celebrations.
Moreover, smoking/vaping, drugs, and urinating in public places are also prohibited.
An advisory was also shared in the event a crime occurs: “if a crime occurs, don’t hesitate to tell the police of all the facts about it. It may help solve the crime and aid the police in proper deployment of personnel especially in places where crime usually occurs or most likely to occur. If you don’t report a crime, criminals will operate continuously.”
It can be recalled that two shooting incidents transpired last January 19, a day prior to the Iloilo Dinagyang 2020 week kicked off. However, the Iloilo City Government, as well as the Iloilo City Police Office, assured that the upcoming festival will be made safe. Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas, through Police Colonel Martin Defensor Jr, instructed that there will be checkpoints and increased police visibility during the festivity.
Moreover, the Philippine National Police announced that permits to carry a firearm outside of residence (PTCFOR) will be suspended from January 22 to 27.
