Just recently, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas revealed to Iloilo City Hall employees that the City Government is eyeing rehabilitation of public markets in all districts of Iloilo, the mayor revealed last Monday. Treñas specified the public markets in the following districts: Arevalo, Mandurriao, Molo, Jaro, and La Paz.
“Gin-ayo sang alkalde ang suporta sang mga myembro sang Sangguniang Panglungsod nga pangitaan sang pondo ang rehabilitasyon sang mga merkado kag malakip sa mga prayuridad nga proyekto,” in a post by Radyo Pilipinas.
It can be recalled that the City Government launched ‘2019 Clean and Green Market Competition’ last August, in a bid to promote and maintain the cleanliness of the markets in the city. As a response, market vendors association, barangay officials, and market officials have expressed their commitment to support the cause.
According to Jose Ariel Castaňeda, Head of the Local Economic Enterprise Office, the competition will run from September 2019 to April 2020 and is open to all public markets provided that the vendors association and barangay officials join the initiative. Moreover, the Local Economic Enterprise Office will closely monitor and evaluate the participating markets in the duration of the competition.
