Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas, via the Iloilo City Government page, announced that upcoming events Paraw Regatta and Iloilo Summer Arts Festival will be postponed as a precaution to the recent Covid-19 outbreak. It can be recalled that President Rodrigo Duterte declared a State of Public Health Emergency after the Department of Health reported the very first local transmission of Covid-19 in the country. To date, the total confirmed Covid-19 case in the country is 6.
“In light of the present situation of Covid-19 in the country and the various protocols suggested by the DOH and WHO, I am hereby directing that the Iloilo Summer Arts Festival be transferred to October of this year. By then the situation would have already improved and concerns with Covid-19 would hopefully have diminished,” in a statement posted on the Iloilo City Government page.
“The Paraw Regatta Festival will have to be postponed for the same reasons. I will sit down with the organizers to discuss what date is most feasible under the circumstances. I will be sitting down with school authorities to discuss what best should be done about scheduled baccalaureate masses and graduation ceremonies,”it adds. Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas has also released a statement in a Facebook post:
“Due to the present situation on the coronavirus in the country and the fact that the President has already approved the declaration of the country under code red, I have decided to call off the moving up activities of the daycare program of the city. All the certificates of the children will be released directly by the daycare teachers to the parents.
I have instructed Dr. Roland Fortuna to conduct a series of conferences for the various cleaning procedures and medical protocols for the city hall, the markets, the schools, the hotels, health centers, transport terminals, churches, and other commercial establishments. We will do our best to make Iloilo safe for everyone. We request the utmost cooperation of everyone as we experience this medical issue which requires the cooperation of everyone to isolate. Keep safe Iloilo!”
