After agreeing to declare a State of Public Health Emergency, President Rodrigo Duterte directed all concerned government agencies to be transparent in their efforts. The declaration came after confirmation of new cases of COVID-19 in the country.
“At the very outset of the surge of news reports concerning Covid-19, the President has categorically mandated relevant instrumentalities of the government to be absolutely transparent to the Filipino people as regards this health issue, aware that we have the right to be informed of the conditions surrounding us,” states Presidential Spokeman Salvador Panelo, in an article by the Philippine News Agency.
It can be recalled that the 5th case is the first case of local transmission in the country after verification with the Bureau of Immigration showed that the patient had no recent travel history. With this, the patient’s wife also tested positive for COVID-19 after contact tracing activities were prompted.
To date, there are a total of 6 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country.
