Delia D – Divine. Diva. Delulu?

Delia D

Delia D chronicles the journey of drag queen extraordinaire Delia as she journeys through fame, fandom, and fanaticism. The musical features the songs of Jonathan Manalo, Filipino songwriter and record producer, and behind some of the country’s most iconic songs.

The story of Delia D begins with Delia, a drag performer with dreams to make it big in the entertainment industry. Surrounded by an adoptive family of drag queens, Delia wanted more than the faint limelight of an entertainment bar. She wanted the spotlight.

Lured by a singing competition, Delia joins Idols of the Galaxy in the hope of a breakthrough – and finally breaking the chains of her perceived mediocrity. Gifted with performing skills, Delia auditioned but was severely criticized for her subpar singing.

She was still selected though, reluctantly, due to public demand. Here she meets fellow contestants, and goes through a journey of highs and lows, friendship and animosity, fame and disgrace, popularity and obscurity, love and hatred.

This here sheds a light to the stark reality of the entertainment industry – cutthroat competition, ever fleeting fame, ruthless societal expectations, among others. A literary and creative Icarus story, Delia D is a worthy watch filled with dynamic scenes and a talented cast.

Cast includes Phi Palmos as Delia, Shaira Opsimar as Kiki, Floyd Tena as Sir T, Omar Uddin as Raymond, Tex Ordonez – De Leon as Mamon, John Lapus at Mama Eme, Joann Yap Go as Anet, Josh Cabiladas as Jose, Mimi Marquez as GVB, Miah Canton as Tonee, Rapah Manalo as Jonathan, Chaye Mogg as Phoebe, Alfritz Blanche as Billy, and Natasha Cabrera as Sheryn, among others.

Delia D is powered by Artistic Directors Menchu Lauchengco – Yulo and Michael Stuart Williams, Director Dexter Santos, Playwright Dolly Dulu, Musical Arranger Vince Lim, Dramaturg Rody Vera, Choreographer Stephen Viñas, Scenic Designer Lawyn Cruz, Lights Designer John Batalla, Video Designer Joyce Garcia and GA Fallarme, Costume Designer Mitoy Sta Ana, Hair Designer Johann Dela Fuente, Makeup Designer Reynaldo Dela Cruz, Sound Designer Justin Stasiw, and Sound Effects Designer Arvy Dimaculangan.

The musical highlights the musical prowess of Jonathan Manalo, with powerful songs and creative melodies – Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw, Sikat Ang Pinoy, Tara Tena, among others. In a collaboration with Musical Director and Manila Philharmonic Orchesta Founder Rodel Colmenar and Conductor Michael Jacinto, Delia D is a musical masterpiece.
