With the spike of COVID cases, Cebu City has been labeled the ‘new epicenter of COVID-19 in the country’. In an announcement made by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año via ANC, he revealed that much has to be done to control the outbreak in Cebu.
“Somehow we’re able to contain in the whole country but of course in the National Capital Region and Cebu we have to do more. Particularly Cebu, it’s the epicenter now compared to Metro Manila in area and population,” states DILG Secretary Eduardo Año via ANC.
Just yesterday, the locality recorded 131 cases while Metro Manila has 356 – but the latter is formed by 17 local government units. According to the Cebu LGU, the spike in cases is due to ‘complacency, eagerness to resume economic activities immediately’.
It may be recalled that viral photos (an apparent religious festival being held despite quarantine) has circulated online. With this, the organizers of the said event will face charges filed against the LGU.
