“They say you haven’t truly lived until you’ve experienced the joy of helping people who can’t repay you,” says Doctor of Optometry and Ocular Prosthesis Specialist Jere Ledesma Cejar on his advocacy strengthened by the Rebecca and Eleanor Foundation, named after the Cejar family matriarchs.
With an advocacy centered on vision, Dr. Cejar utilizes his expertise on overall eye health – maintaining wellness and restoring eyesight. One integral aspect in the advocacy is providing eye prostheses to those in need.
In a recent engagement, Dr. Cejar held a ceremonial turnover of prosthetic eyes to four beneficiaries, and prism correction to one.
“It might be a tiny step for some, but for these artificial eye recipients, it means the world. People will forget what you say and do, but they will always remember how you made them feel,” Dr. Cejar adds.
Dr. Cejar’s altruistic endeavors also touched private entities. Courtyard by Marriott Iloilo, Dr. Cejar’s venue of choice for his events, commended his actions.
“Since 2018, Dr. Jere Ledesma-Cejar, a dedicated Doctor of Optometry and Ocular Prosthesis Specialist, has made Courtyard by Marriott Iloilo his home away from home. Throughout the years, he has remained a constant presence – offering not only his loyalty as a guest, but also his genuine care for others, even during times that called for resilience and compassion,” a statement on the hotel’s social media page.
One Pair of Eyeglasses Could Not Be Enough. Dr. Cejar campaigns for eyeglasses that serve the different needs of the wearer – eyeglasses that works best in the outdoors, when reading, when exposed to blue light, among others. Different activities place varying levels of strain on the eyes and often require specific type of lenses for optimal comfort and clarity.
With this, Dr. Cejar encourages everyone to take care of their eyes: “The only person who will take care of the older you is the younger you today. While you still can, take care of your eyes.”
