After prices of palay plummeted last year, the Department of Agriculture has distributed Php 9.1 million cash aid to farmers in the Province of Iloilo. This will entail the distribution of Php 5,000 cash per farmer with a total of 1,829 farmer-beneficiaries.
“This could be a great help in this time when our nation is under a state of emergency and farmers cannot perform their respective routine,” states Department of Agriculture Western Visayas Regional Director Remelyn Recoter, in an article published by Manila Bulletin.
Furthermore, according to Recoter, the distribution of cash aid will be compliant with the safety protocols set by the Covid-19 Inter-Agency Task Force. She adds that the distribution will be done in a manner that only a few farmers will be coming to get their cash assistance at a time.
The initial Php 9.1 million cash aid is just the first in the Rice Farmers Financial Assistance (RFFA) Program. For the Province of Iloilo, there was a Php 232.58 million allocation for 46,516 farmers.
