A variety of ‘batchoy brands’ will be the highlight in the first-ever ‘batchoy festival’ set to happen in SM City Iloilo during the anticipated food festival slated January 23 to 26. The ‘batchoy’ dish is said to be the ‘star of the show’, with the ‘batchoy festival’ spearheaded by the Department of Tourism and the Office of Councilor Jay Treñas.
According to Troy Camarista, Public Relations Manager of SM City Iloilo, the mall intends to highlight the batchoy as Iloilo is known for the local dish. Batchoy is a noodle soup made with pork organs, crushed pork cracklings, chicken stock, beef loin, and round noodles. The origin of batchoy is trailed to the district of La Paz, Iloilo City and is often referred to as its iconic name, La Paz Batchoy.
