A food delivery rider was gunned down on Holy Wednesday along De Leon Street in Iloilo City. The victim, identified as Joemar Sanchez, 29, a Foodpanda rider and resident of Barangay Bitoon in Jaro, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died at the scene.
Suspect Argie Solis, a resident of Laua-an, Antique fled the scene after the incident. Solis is an employee of Grabato Investigation Risk Management and Security Service, Inc. The suspect was assigned at Malayan Bank in downtown Iloilo.
The perpetrator was intercepted by Laua-an police in Sibalom, Antique within the day.
Suspect was apologetic in a brief interview with RMN Iloilo.
“Waay man ko naakig sa iya sir auh. Naghambal man lang ko sa iya indi pagpatong ang plastic nga basa sa amon nga logbook kag mabasa bala. Siya ang nangakig pa sa amon yah. Nagtaas ang tingog niya sa amon. Hambal niya sa akon, ginbutang ko lang man na da sa ano mo, mangakig gid timo sa akon. Hambal niya sa akon, ako pa ang nangakig sa iya,” states Solis in an interview by RMN Iloilo.
“Gapangayo ko sorry. Anhon mo ara na. Indi ko na mabalik ang kabuhi niya. Gapangayo lang ko sang pasaylo sa pamilya sang gintiro ko. Indi ko man hungod nga…pero indi ko ma. Amo na lang ni mahimo ko [mag-surrender],”he adds.
The Foodpanda riders community extends their heartfelt condolences to the family of slain victim.
“Lubos nakikiramay ang buong Ka-Panda community sa pamilya and loved ones ni Ka-Panda Joemar from Iloilo. Ang serbisyo at tiyaga na ipinakita ni Ka-Panda Joemar bilang isang foodpanda rider ay hinding-hindi malilimutan at truly nating pinasasalamatan. Ride in peace, Ka-Panda Joemar!”
The company itself, Foodpanda, also released a statement.
“We are deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Joemar Sanchez, one of our valued riders in Iloilo. Our deepest sympathies and our sincerest condolences go to his family and loved ones. We are in touch with Joemar’s family so we can provide the necessary support that they need during this difficult time.
The authorities can expect our full cooperation in the ongoing investigation as we believe that anyone making an honest living should not experience such danger. While nothing can make up for losing a loved one, we are hoping for a quick resolution and that justice will be served for Joemar and his family.”
