Just recently, a couple and two others were apprehended by authorities after being associated with an online scam amounting to Php 1.8 million and involving 50,000 face shields in Manila. In an article by Philippine Star, Raymund Manzanares (42), wife Vivien (47), along with Krizia Allen Cay Mercurio (32), and Christine Pitiquen (33) were arrested in an entrapment operation.
According to Manila Police District Chief Maj. Joey de Ocampo, the complaint stemmed from Vanessa Abajo from Pangasinan. According to Abajo, suspects duped her and her business partner of Php 1.8 million. Abajo sought assistance after the suspects failed to deliver the items (face shields).
Abajo narrates that she met the suspects on Facebook and offered to sell her face shields. She was then instructed to contact a man named Paul, who instructed her to bring the money to a certain hotel to complete the transaction. She also added that she was introduced to a man named Jun Mozon, who received the cash. She was then informed that the face shields will be delivered in two days.
Apparently, no face shields were delivered after waiting for four days. After failed attempts to retrieve her money, she sought police assistance. Read more: Four held over face shield scam, an article by Philippine Star.
