All residents in Guimbal were considered as persons under monitoring (PUM) as a local transmission was confirmed by the Department of Health – Center for Health Development in Western Visayas (DOH-CHD 6). According to the agency, the second confirmed case is a 51 year-old female linked to the first confirmed case, a 65-year-old male.
“Guimbal has met the definition of local transmission, meaning, the source of the infection is within the reporting location,” states Dr. Marlyn Convocar. Regional Director of Department of Health – Center for Health Development in Western Visayas (DOH-CHD 6), in an article published by the Philippine News Agency.
Convocar also adds that it is beyond the authority of DOH to place the town under a ‘lockdown’, as it is only the agency’s obligation to inform the governor and the town mayor of the situation.
“Because of that, all of them are PUMs, so will be monitored if they have signs and symptoms. If none, they will be observed and (placed on) home quarantine. If they have signs and symptoms, they are now patients under investigation (PUIs) and will be managed accordingly,” adds Convocar.
