Just recently, the Sangguniang Panlungsod has approved the first reading of the proposed ordinance establishing the ‘Iloilo City Human Milk Bank’. The proposed milk bank may be set up within the proposed city hospital.
The proponent is Councilor Candice Tupas, also a physician.
“Mayor Jerry Treñas is planning to have a city hospital. I think it is the best time, too, to have an ordinance creating a city breast milk bank. As former chairperson of the Hospital and Sanitation Services and Health Committee, I know Iloilo City would fall short sa breastfeeding nutrition based on the Department of Health scorecard,” states Councilor Candice Tupas, in an article by Panay News.
Tupas acknowledges the importance of breastfeeding and intends to raise awareness about it. She added that she breastfed all her children and urges mothers to do the same.
“It does not only save you money buying formula milk. It also strengths the bond between the mother and the baby and provides the baby optimum nutrition in times of pandemic,” she added. Read more: Breast milk bank for Iloilo City proposed, an article by Panay News.
