Iloilo ASEAN Clean Tourist City: Just recently, Iloilo City was included among the three awardees of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, ASEAN, Clean Tourist City Award 2020 – 2022. The award lauds cities that have excelled in the beautification of public areas, improvement of environment and sanitation, enhancement of urban spaces, and promotion of natural attractions.
Department of Tourism Office of Tourism Standards and Regulation Director Rebecca Villanueva – Labit recently forwarded an invitation to Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas to attend the awarding ceremony at The Empire Hotel and Country Club, Bandar Seri Bengawan, Brunei Darussalam slated January 16, 2020.
“We are happy to inform that Iloilo City has successfully garnered the number of points to be one of three Philippine winners to receive the award. In behalf of the Department of Tourism, a heartfelt congratulations to you and the people of Iloilo for their contributions in making Iloilo City a clean, more exciting and fun destination,” states Department of Tourism Office of Tourism Standards and Regulation Director Rebecca Villanueva – Labit.
Moreover, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas is elated to accept the award on behalf of the city.
“This warms my heart because having a clean city for my beloved Ilonggos and our tourists to feel safe is what I have worked hard for, for the past 5 months in office. We have reactivated the beautification team and Task Force Boltahe to maintain our broken street lights and the additional personnel to help clean our city. We also established the green guards to protect our parks, plazas and public areas. We couldn’t have done this without everyone’s help.” States Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas.
A team from the Standard Development Division has recently visited areas and assessed compliance to criteria. This includes the following: promotional materials for tourist products; city’s report to include policies and legislations; awareness campaign and programs; maintenance plans and cleaning schedules; ordinances related to growth of tourism industry; performance statistics; filled-up survey forms to gauge the level of satisfaction of tourist and summary survey results; documentation on risk management system; and documents to substantiate the city’s best practices.
Congratulations, Iloilo City!
