Roll-on, roll-off (RoRo) vessels and fast craft vessels from Bacolod to Iloilo (and vice versa) will resume operations on May 18, according to PCG-Negros Occident Lt. Commander Jansen Benjamin. The decision was made after Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas authorized sea travel and recommended to resume on Monday, May 17.
Benjamin reveals that only 50% of the passenger capacity will be allowed to board the ship. He also stressed that physical distancing, wearing facemasks, and checking body temperature will remain as common practice. Moreover, footbath and handwashing areas will be installed in all entry and exit access points.
Benjamin also adds that sea trips from areas under Enhanced Community Quarantine will not be allowed. This includes trips to and from the following areas: Escalante, Sagay, and San Carlos as most trips come from the province of Cebu, which is currently under ECQ. Trips will also be limited to six trips daily. Moreover, shipping lines are yet to make an appeal to MARINA to increase fares given that the number of passengers will be limited as well.
It can be recalled that all areas – with the exception of the National Capital Region, Laguna, and Cebu City – will be placed under General Community Quarantine. This includes Western Visayas.
