Iloilo City Gov: Buying of Liquor Till 6pm Only; No Drinking in Public Places

The Iloilo City Government, in an update, recently issued Executive Order No. 153-D, an executive order amending the restrictions on the consumption of liquor. The EO mandates that the consumption of liquor in public places is strictly prohibited whilst selling of such alcoholic drinks is only allowed until 6pm.

“We need to set interventions that would contain the risks of COVID-19 transmission. Ginapangayo guid namon ang kooperasyon sang tanan. Gamay lang guid nga sakripisyo para makasalbar sang kabuhi sang aton kasimanwa,”states Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas in a social media post.

Moreover, here is an additional input from Treñas

“The Iloilo City Government, upon the recommendation of the IC COVID Team has resolved to regulate liquor consumption–only allowing the sale but absolutely prohibiting PUBLIC consumption of liquor as one of the intervention measures to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The World Health Organization holds that the primary transmission route of COVID 19 is through person-to-person contact and through direct contact with respiratory droplets generated when an infected person coughs or sneezes. The allowance of drinking sessions outside paves for a situation where individuals spend a significant amount of time with others unmasked, coupled with the common side effects of intoxication where physical distancing can no longer be properly observed. Needless to say, the said circumstance allows for the perfect setting of COVID-19 transmission.

The City of Iloilo is still under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) per IATF resolution 75-A dated September 29, 2020. The City is exploring all routes to ease out its restrictions in an effort to jumpstart the economy while balancing the challenges brought about by the rapid surge in cases of community transmission. Local health authorities report that Iloilo City’s daily average case of confirmed cases are at 53 cases per day from October 1 to 20, 2020. Hence, there is a compelling need to regulate the serving and consumption of liquors and other similar alcoholic drinks as the same encourage close contact among people, thereby defeating the objectives of the community quarantine. Gamay lang guid nga sakripisyo para makasalbar sang kabuhi sang aton mga pamilya kag kasimanwa. Mag ugyon kita tanan. Bato Iloilo!
