Just recently, the Sangguniang Panglungsod approved the amended version of Regulation Ordinance 2017 – 053, otherwise known as the Ilonggo Centenarian Ordinance wherein benefits and privileges are given when a resident hits 100 years old.
Under the amended version, elderly reaching the age of 80 is entitled to Php 10,000 – Php 20,000 to 90 elderly reaching 90 years old, and Php 50,000 to elderly reaching 100 year old. However, the ordinance has no retroactive effect.
“Reaching the age of 80 years old is very rare nowadays. Lowering the age bracket will ensure that our senior citizens receive the benefit while they are still strong and able to enjoy their cash incentives,” states Iloilo City Councilor Jose Efrain Treñas, in an article by the Philippine News Agency.
Treñas assures that the city government has sufficient funds for the proposed incentives. To date, the local legislation has allotted Php 3 million. Treñas is currently the chairman of the Sangguniang Panglungsod Committee on Appropriations.
