As the mass testing commenced in Iloilo City last Monday targeting potential carriers of COVID-19, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas became ‘irate’ over breach of protocol. Among those being tested are persons exposed to an infected ‘Overseas Filipino Worker’ repatriated to Iloilo the week before.
Treñas lambasted the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) for allowing OFWs to be transported via ship from Cebu to Iloilo without undergoing testing and mandatory 14-day quarantine.
“I am terribly mad at the OWWA. They informed me only the night before the OFWs will be arriving,” states Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas, in a press conference last Monday (sourced from an article published by The Inquirer).
Treñas stated that at least 94 persons – with the inclusion of health and city workers, coast guard members, and ship crew members – were exposed to the infected person. The mayor reiterated that the agency has violated protocol set by the Inter-Agency Task Force for COVID-19.
“We also want them (OFWs) to be with their families but our safety should not be sacrificed. They should have endured and contained it, security first!” adds Treñas.
