Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas announced via Facebook that there will be no activities for the month of February and March as a precaution to the recent coronavirus outbreak. It can be recalled that the City Government has postponed the Paraw Regatta Festival, held annually. The City Government postponed the event after consultation with the Department of Health, City Health Office, Iloilo Festivals Foundation, and the Iloilo Paraw Regatta Foundation.
“There will be no activities for the months of February and March. This is for the safety of everyone due to the threat brought by COVID-19,” states Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas on a Facebook post.
It can be recalled that the World Health Organization declared the coronavirus outbreak a global emergency. In an article by the United Nations, as of January 30, there are more than 7,800 confirmed cases globally – with 7,736 confirmed in China alone, and with 12,167 suspected cases. The outbreak is believed to have started in Wuhan, a city of around 11 million which remains in lockdown as of date.
