Iloilo City Bags Three Population Awards: The City of Love reigned victorious in the Regional Search for the 2019 Kaunlarang Pantao or the Rafael M. Salas Population Development Award. The city won three awards namely: Most Outstanding City Population Office; Most Outstanding City Population Officer, Mary Ann A. Ramos; and Most Outstanding Barangay Population Volunteer, Luzviminda Francisco, best contenders in Western Visayas.

The city’s population office has been lauded for its programs and achievements. By far, the office has achieved a 71.42 percent Contraceptive Prevalence Rate, 65 percent higher than the national target by the Department of Health together with the Commission on Population and Development for Responsible Parenthood and Family Planning Program.

The office has also been cited for its exemplary Information, Education, and Communication Advocacy on Adolescent Health and Development. So far, there has been a decreasing trend in teenage pregnancy from 2015 to 2018.

“The City Population Office made it with flying colors. We always endeavor to have effective implementation through initiatives and innovative strategies in order to achieve fruitful outcomes. There is synergy and functional mechanism with stakeholders in planning, monitoring and assessment of programs,” states Mary Ann A. Ramos, City Population Officer and also the recipient of the Most Outstanding City Population Officer.
