In a recent social media post, the Iloilo City Government revealed that it will have its own testing laboratory by July to pursue efforts in containing the spread of coronavirus disease. To date, the number of cases has reached a 100 mark in Western Visayas with a total of 64 recoveries and 10 deaths (as of May 16).
According to Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas, the new facility will boost the capacity of managing cases. Moreover, around Php 15 million was initially allotted for the project that will be installed at the old site of the City Agriculturist’s Office in MH del Pilar in Molo.
“We expect the procurement of machine by middle of June as we fasttrack the opening of laboratory for city residents,” states Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas.
The proposed ‘Iloilo City COVID Lab and Dormitory’ was presented at the Iloilo City Hall last May 15 by Arch. Regi Gregorio and Arch. Jun Balinas from the City Engineer’s Office. It was also revealed that the laboratory is also capable of testing Dengue and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).
The project is expected to be completed by July.
