Iloilo City Traffic Discipline Zone: Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas designated a 14-kilometer stretch of Senator Benigno Aquino Jr Avenue. The mayor said that the implementation of the traffic discipline zone will affirm that it can be done for the rest of Iloilo City.

“After Diversion Road, we will again do it in Tabuk Suba McArthur Drive to put order in problematic places due to lack of discipline,” states Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas, in an article by the Philippine News Agency. Moreover, the mayor revealed that if successful, it will be officially implemented in 2020.

The 14-kilometer stretch will commence from the bridge near the University of the Philippines in the Visayas up to Ungka Iloilo Terminal and General Services in Jaro District. The discipline zone will be implemented by the Land Transportation Office and the Highway Patrol Group. Among those that will be enforced include speed limit, anti-modified mufflers, helmet policy, no registration, illegal modification, proper loading and unloading, and other regulations stipulated on road traffic.

According to Jeck Conlu, Head of the Iloilo City Public Safety and Transportation Management Office, stated that vehicles that will pass along Diversion Road shall follow all traffic laws and ordinances stipulated in Republic Act 4236 known as the National Traffic Code. Conlu shares that authorities will pilot the implementation for one to two months.

“Hopefully, we can implement it in January to make the whole stretch of Benigno Aquino as the first traffic discipline zone of our city. This is one of the programs of Mayor Jerry P. Treñas to level-up the city by next year,”states Jeck Conlu, Head of the Iloilo City Public Safety and Transportation Management Office.
