Just recently, the Iloilo Sangguniang Panlalawigan (Provincial Board) has approved the 2020 budget totaling to Php 3.029 billion for the General Fund and Php 1.060 billion the Local Economic Enterprise. The budget was approved during the regular session last Tuesday afternoon.
“I am very glad to say this time, as early as December 10, we have approved the annual budget for the province of Iloilo. That is about a little more than PHP3 billion for 2020 on the General Fund and more than PHP1 billion on the LEE,” states Vice Governor Christine Garin, in an article by the Philippine News Agency.
- Php 917 million for general public services;
- Php 482 million for economic services;
- Php 469 million for social services;
- And Php 1.16 billion for special purpose appropriations
Meanwhile the LEE, or the Local Economic Enterprise sourced from the estimated collection and services incomes of the 11 district hospitals and one provincial hospital, will cover expenses outside those charged under the General Fund.
“The personal services and other expenses in the hospitals, like medicines, will fall under the LEE,” states Garin. The proposed General Fund is higher by Php 282.417 million, a 9.32% increase than that of 2019. The LEE, to add, is Php 209.425 million or a 19.74% increase than that of 2019.
In the budget message, Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr revealed that the budget is aligned with his ‘social justice agenda’, focusing on investment and employment opportunities, food security, health, and social services, provincial resources, and transparent provision of government services.
