Iloilo Indigent residents were the recipients of free reusable face masks from the national government – turned over to the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials. There were 500,000 reusable facemasks under the ‘Libreng Mask Para sa Masa’ of the Office of President Rodrigo Duterte.

“President Duterte issued Executive Order (EO) 49 regarding the distribution of free face masks to indigents who could not afford to buy face masks,” states Melissa Banias, Chief of the Capacity Building Section of the Office of Civil Defense. The identification of beneficiaries was facilitated by the Department of Social Welfare and Development in collaboration with the City Social Welfare and Development Office. They include beneficiaries of the Social Amelioration Program, members of the Pantawid Pamilya Pilipino Program, and those belonging to low-income sectors. A total of 10,000 families were identified.

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas is thankful for the initiative.

“I am grateful for the support of the office of the President through donating a total of 500,000 face masks that will be distributed to all the barangays in the city together with the distribution of financial assistance to our barangay officials,” Treñas states in a social media post.

“The Department of Social Welfare and Development Office allocated P2-M worth of funds while the Iloilo City Government has allocated P5-M worth of funds to be distributed to our barangay officials who tirelessly worked for the safety of our constituents. We always value the efforts of our hardworking personnel who continue to serve the community and led everyone to safety,” the Iloilo City Mayor adds.
