Iloilo pushes ‘clean as you go’ initiative. Just recently, officials and heads convened and expressed their support for the ‘clean as you go’ initiative. Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas headed the pledge and signing of commitment during the flag ceremony last Monday.
The initiative is also in line with Resolution No 2019-654 authored by Iloilo City Councilor Rudolph Jeffrey Ganzon. According to the ordinance, CLAYGO is a “practice that encourages everyone to make cleaning as part of our daily routine and way of life.” Moreover, the introduced method will inevitably wean Ilonggos from relying too much on street sweepers, janitors, and cleaners to mention a few.
“As we campaign for a cleaner and more responsible citizen, it is just right that our city officials will be in full support, especially now that we are promoting a lot of festivals and the most recent that we are going to do is the Dinagyang,” states Iloilo City Councilor Rudolph Jeffrey Ganzon, in an article by the Philippine News Agency.
It can be recalled that the City Government will be distributing trash bins around the city. Wastebaskets made of kaing / bamboo will help minimize, if not eradicate, littering. Moreover, it can also be recalled that Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas called for a trash-free Iloilo, especially as the City of Love anticipates the biggest festival of the year, the Iloilo Dinagyang 2020.
