Virtual Dinagyang: Iloilo Dinagyang, held virtually via digital platforms, was a success. Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas took to social media to share his appreciation, as well as thank the individuals behind the success. It may be recalled that the annual celebration was tailored to fit health and safety protocols, thus the move to go digital.
Here is Mayor Treñas’ statement:
“The Dinagyang Digital 2021 is one of the best Dinagyangs in our festival history. Despite the strict health protocols being followed by everyone due to the pandemic, we showed the whole world that Ilonggos are one as we celebrate the biggest feast of the city, the feast of our patron saint, Señor Sto Niño.
Kudos to the men and women of Iloilo Festivals Foundation Inc., the warriors coming from the different schools and to everyone who took care of the little things so that our digital celebration will push through. I give my special thanks to all our media partners for joining us every step of the way, helping us have a safe celebration.
I also express my special thanks to our sponsors because you believed that we can pull this off. And most especially to our beloved Ilonggo people- this is because of you and this is for you – I am certain that Señor Sto Niño is smiling in the heavens saying to himself the Ilonggos are at it again- and always shouting to the heavens. Bato, Iloilo! Kaya ta ni!
Mga palangga ko nga Ilonggos, lain guid ya ang mga Ilonggo! Kabay nga pa dayon kita nga ubayan sang Aton mahal nga Ginoo! Hala Bira! Uswag, Iloilo!”
