Ilonggo Blogs: Let’s face it, blogs have been fundamental in influencing our choices on where to eat, what to wear, and what products to buy. We’ve seen the likes of Vloggers giving reviews on the hottest makeup must-haves, travel bloggers with their latest Instagram #TravelGoals post, fashion bloggers posting their newest OOTD, and food bloggers writing about that new restaurant that is definitely to die for. Well, welcome to the digital age where information is a click – or Google – away.
I have always been the old school kind of person. I used to ask myself what do the likes of ATM and TYFTA mean and it took me long enough to incorporate those jargons into my mental dictionary – and, until now, it is still a struggle to be at par with this digital and high technology kind of era. Apps, anyone?
How was I able to transition to ‘news and feature stories about the city of love and beyond’? Well, Iloilo is too beautiful to not write about. And here, I enumerate the Ilonggo blogs I fell in love with.
It was a few years back when I began to follow blogs. I used to blog way back in 2012 when I began posting discarded articles from my client. If you’ve seen me post about ‘how many calories in a banana’ or ‘how to trim down in a week’, those were probably excess articles that my client no longer needed. How was I able to transition to ‘news and feature stories about the city of love and beyond’? Well, Iloilo is too beautiful to not write about. Here’s about me and my blog. And here, I enumerate the Ilonggo blogs I fell in love with.
First off, when it comes to Iloilo you have to know how to get to Iloilo and to the tourist whereabouts of Iloilo. I used to wonder how to get to Isla de Gigantes, one of the provinces’ remarkable beauties. Before, you would have to ask someone who has been to the island to acquire the information you need. Now, just Google it away or visit www.exploreiloilo.com.
Explore Iloilo is ‘a destination guide about travel and socially relevant developments in Iloilo and Western Visayas Region in the Philippines’. The blog’s mission is to be an informative hub that inspires people about the multifaceted potentials of Iloilo and the rest of the region. Founded in 2006 by Marcos Detourist, the blog now has a whopping 70 plus thousand followers on channels and social profiles. If there is any location in Iloilo that you want to know about, I swear by this blog. It has probably covered every visit-worthy destination in Iloilo and beyond.

Of course, what is Iloilo without food? Iloilo is known for its colorful collection of food and fusion recipes. From the famous and original batchoy to the eclectic dishes served in various restaurants in the city, Iloilo is surrounded by pallatable and mouthwatering finds. I am not quite sure about the exact number but there are more than 200 restaurants in the city alone. You have focal food destinations such as SM City Iloilo inclusive of SM North Wing and SM Southpoint, Plazuela Uno and Plazuela Dos, The Shops at Atria Park District, nightlife destination Smallville Complex, Megaworld’s Iloilo Business Park and its several kilometers long Festive Walk Parade, and more. When it comes to food and the food beats in Iloilo, I recommend these blogs: www.flavoursofiloilo.blogspot.com and www.cafeilonggo.blogspot.com.
What I love about Flavours of Iloilo is the collection of Ilonggo delicacies and the jawdropping photos that go with the articles. Revel in a illustrative journey to Iloilo’s foodgasmic finds. An equally appetizing blog is Cafe Ilonggo bringing together a collection of restaurant features that are based in the gastronomic heart of Iloilo.
Sure enough, to be at par with Iloilo, you have to know what is happening in the city of love – and that is where I trust the likes of www.iloilotoday.com and www.iloilo-updates.blogspot.com. These are interesting digital newspapers that is best paired with morning coffee before we start the day. Iloilo Today is a ‘startup news blog which brings relevant information and updates in the field of business, entertainment, technology, politics, sports, education, and trending topics in social media’. It brings together a collection of thought-stimulating topics focused on the Ilonggo arena.
We definitely need this kind of information regularly digested into our system. After all, inspirational stories are just some of the things that encourages us to resonate positivity and become better members of the community.
Iloilo Updates, meanwhile, is a testament to its tagline ‘I’ve got some good news for you’. The blog writes about promising and inspirational news centered on positivity and goodwill. Same with its sister blog, www.kathyvillalon.blogspot.com, you can read encouraging stories such as ‘hiphop dancer turned entrepreneur helps people gets jobs’, ‘amid poverty, these Ilonggo moms raised successful children’ – we definitely need this kind of information regularly digested into our system. After all, inspirational stories are just some of the things that encourages us to resonate positivity and become better members of the community.
Speaking of community. When it comes to people and society, I can’t miss a blog like www.porfirioness.com – ‘chronicling the lifestyle and society scene of Metro-Iloilo and hereabouts’. Porfirioness is the blog of celebrated columnist John B. Castigador and offshoot of his long running column, ‘At the Bat of an Eyelash’, a society column since 1988. The blog encapsulates a variety of scenes from travel, entertainment, arts, and more. What I like about this blog is that it reverberates class and sophistication – from the colorful assembly of words to the exhaustive collection of photos of Iloilo’s who’s who.

Of course, what is blogging without the latest trends in makeup and fashion? Of OOTDs and makeup look of the century, I definitely follow www.nanajover.com and www.tishaseptember.com. A Not So Secret Life is a lifestyle blog by Jover sisters Nana and Lala. It chronicles their musings for fashion, beauty discoveries, inspiration and aspirations, and travel. Founded in 2012, Nana has been keeping followers up to date of the hottest trends in fashion through her stunning OOTDs. Nana fancies classic and laid back with a hint of Japanese and Korean fashion.
A Day in September, meanwhile, is a blog by architect and fashion blogger Tisha September Arnaldo. A Day in September will ‘remind you just why you fell in love with architecture and fashion in the first place’. Tisha is now the proud owner of the September Collection Shop, located in corner Jalandoni and Commission Civil Streets in Jaro Iloilo, where it showcases a very wide variety of skin care products, makeup lines, and fashionable clothing. What I also like about Tisha is her makeup tutorial videos on her Youtube channel, Tisha September.
She provides detail by detail information from bus fares, choosing the best seats, to describing the overall ambiance of the place. What I also love about her blog is her tales about parenting and family with cutie kiddos.
So what if you’re new to Iloilo and don’t have a place to stay here in the city of love? Or, you want to go to the best destinations in the province but don’t know how to get there? This is where I trust the blog www.valcaulin.com, blog of Ms. Valerie Caulin. She provides informative insights on hotels within the confines of Iloilo and beyond, tourist destinations that are worthy coming over, and itineraries within a certain locality. She provides detail by detail information from bus fares, choosing the best seats, to describing the overall ambiance of the place. What I also love about her blog is her tales about parenting and family with cutie kiddos, Liam and Aki. Hello babies!
Sand, sun, slippers, and colorful words best explains this blog. The Sailor goals: “I vow to swim in the Philippines’ wonderful beaches. One step at a time.”
When it comes to a niche-specific travel blog, the ‘beachiest’ blog I have even encountered is The Lone Sailor, www.akosimerman.blogspot.com. From the words, you would know that the blogger behind this blog is part merman who is binded to the sea. I totally love how the sailor arranges his words, it feels like I am reading a short story while titillating the mermaid in me. Sand, sun, slippers, and colorful words best explains this blog. The Sailor goals: “I vow to swim in the Philippines’ wonderful beaches. One step at a time.”
We must have traveled far from the city of love already. From travel and beaches, let’s revert to lifestyle blogs that talks about living in Iloilo. One of the blogs I love is by nurse and blogger Apple Ochon, www.theappletizer.wordpress.com. The Appletizer is a ‘hodgepodge of random matters of concern. Of rants. Of love. Of ideas and notions. Of regrets and frustrations. Of circumstances. Of places. Of dreams”. This blog is truly a work of art carefully crafted by a writer and nurse fused into one. Another blog that I like is seeing ‘life through MJ’s optimistic eyes’. Mary Jane’s Niche, www.maryjanecabrera.com is the blog of Mary Jane Cabrera.

Another interesting blog entails the candid life of Raymart Escopel, www.randomlycandid.blogspot.com. Randomly Candid serves as a ‘platform to reach a wider audience and inform the public of latest happenings, must-sees, and the must-tries not only in Iloilo, but also in other areas where I go’. What I love about Randomly Candid is seeing the unmistakable candidness the blog portrays in its writing and pictures. And of course, the jawdropping, sexy, voluptuous, and stunning shots of Raymart!
I also like Rosmar’s Symphony, www.rosmarvillalon.blogspot.com, it is a symphony of Ilonggo news and features, a colorful collection of tales centered on the city of love. When it comes to delivering beautiful news about Iloilo, I would also like to commend Iloilo’s very own Page Maker, Zedrick Señeres. The Page Maker is a column in The Daily Guardian, www.thedailyguardian.net/society.
So it’s a wrap! Blogs have served as crucial diaries that help shape our decisions in food, travel, fashion, lifestyle, and more! These are my top choices when it comes to Iloilo Bloggers. I hope you enjoy my recommendations!
