There’s no denying that Jollibee is part of every Filipino’s childhood – even in adulthood. The ‘kiddie meal’ used to be my ‘pacifying’ meal for me to keep me ‘well behaved’ at the mall – the ‘two-piece’, my ‘celebratory’ meal after payday. And now, my comfort food whenever I browse the Foodpanda app.
Jollibee is Jollibee.
The Jollibee legacy started when Tony Tan Caktiong and his family opened a Magnolia Ice Cream parlor in Quezon City. Later on, the small shop started serving meals, and the family converted the ice cream shop into a fast food restaurant – that was when the brand was born (1978). And the rest is history.
To date, it is the largest fastfood chain brand in the country, operating a network of more than 1,400 stores – and even reaching foreign ground. It has more than 270 international branches in the United States, Canada, Hong Kong, Macau, Brunei, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, Italy, and even in the United Kingdom.
It was even given recognition as the ‘Employer of the Year Award’ by the Personnel Management Association of the Philippines, ‘Best Employer in the Philippines Award’ from Hewitt Associated, and included in the Top 20 Employer in Asia citation from the Asian Wall Street Journal.
Jollibee in Iloilo, Antique, and everywhere. Fast forward to 2021, the brand seems to be everywhere in Iloilo. However, the first branch I can remember was in SM Delgado, in downtown Iloilo. In Antique, the first branch is said to be established in San Jose de Buenavista, Antique. Both are still in operation to this day.
“In case you don’t know it yet, the best-tasting and all-time favorite Filipino fast food Jollibee has a branch in San Jose, Antique and is open to serve you! Jollibee along Carreta Street is the first branch in Antique and is just one of over 1,300 branches all over the world. Despite the pandemic, the Antique branch still gives the Antiquenos a taste for their world-class Chicken Joy and Jolly Spaghetti,” excerpt from a social media post by Millenial Times.
