Loot Popup and Scarves for Schools

When Typhoon Yolanda, also known as Typhoon Haiyan, made landfall October 2013, the northern part of Panay Island was devastated. Homes and buildings were washed out into the sea and blown away by strong winds. In its wake, it left people homeless and uncertain. However, one thing that remained positive was the conscious effort of continuing the children’s education. Despite horrific conditions, the children continue to go to school in shanties and makeshift tents while their parents look for means to rebuild their homes, more so, their lives.

The tragedy has become the inspiration of the Scarves for Schools Project led by Ms Francesca ‘Fran’ Golez. The Scarves for Schools Project enables each and everyone to share blessings to these children. The proceeds of each bag of scarves will go schools in oppressed areas not just in Northern Panay but other areas in the Panay Island as well , by means of donations of school materials, supplies, and facilities. Each bag of scarves costs Php 1,500 and contain 10 pieces.

“We also gave food, clothing, notebooks, paper, pens and other things they needed, but when I went back there, years later after the Typhoon, schools’ infrastructure were still not finished, there are so many things still needed to be rebuilt, materials to buy. We are trying to raise P1.5M to fund the schools so children can go to a proper school building and learn in a more conducive environment. We want something more solid and long term than giving items. Infrasructure is more our focus now.” – says Ms Fran.

The Scarves for Schools Project will be available in Ms Fran’s Loot Popup Store at Nelly’s Garden, also known as the Vicente Lopez Heritage House, located along E. Lopez Street in Jaro, Iloilo. The Loot Popup Store features a variety of home and fashion items from Ms Fran’s travels around the world, specifically from Spain, Portugal, Vietnam, and Thailand. Items include clothing, bags, shoes, and accessories. These are sold at fair prices. Moreover, new pieces will be available soon in the upcoming Pre Christmas Loot Popup slated sometime in September. For more details on Loot Popup and Scarves for Schools Project, contact 09171301833 or follow Loot Popup on Instagram at @LootPopup and @ShopLily.Ph
