Iloilo City: Lowest Electricity Rate in PH

Iloilo City: Lowest Electricity Rate in PH. According to a report by the Institute of Contemporary Economics, Iloilo City has the lowest electricity rate among major cities in the country as of April 2024. More Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power Iloilo), the sole distribution utility in Iloilo City, has a rate of P10.30 kWh.

Metro Manila, serviced by Manila Electric Company (MERALCO), has a rate of 10.95 kWh; Cebu City, serviced by Visayan Electric and has a rate of P11.28 kWh; and Bacolod City, serviced by Central Negros Electric Cooperative Inc (CENECO), has a rate of P11.95 kWh.

This development gathered positive feedback from the Ilonggo community. Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas shared his thoughts, baring that the development will open more opportunities for the metro.

“Having the lowest electricity rate among major cities in the Philippines is a big boost to Iloilo City in terms of opening more investments, businesses, and economic activities that will strengthen and sustain our rise to progress. This is also a very welcome development for every Ilonggo household that will never have to worry about high electric bills,” states Mayor Treñas

The mayor also lauds MORE Power for its commitment to providing quality service at an affordable rate.

“I am thankful to MORE Power for providing Iloilo City with reliable and affordable power and for their commitment to always advance the welfare of our residents at all times,” he adds.

The Iloilo Economic Development Foundation Inc (ILED) also issued a statement, applauding the efforts of MORE Power for the development.

“As an organization deeply invested in the economic advancement of Iloilo City, we recognize the pivotal role that MORE Power plays in our community. Their efforts in delivering affordable and reliable electricity contribute significantly to the city’s competitiveness and overall quality of life for its residents,” an excerpt from the official statement of ILED.

Moreover, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry – Iloilo Chapter also issued a statement.

“In line with our commitment to advancing the interest of Iloilo’s business landscape, we commend More Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power) for its dedication to promoting accessible and affordable access to electricity and for providing excellent service to the people of Iloilo,” an excerpt from the organization’s official statement.
