Metro Pacific Iloilo Water, in partnership with Maynilad Water Services Inc., held a stakeholder water education tour with representatives from local government units and media outfits of Iloilo province.
Maynilad, a water services provider in Metro Manila, bared best practices in water and wastewater treatment. Iloilo visitors were guided through the treatment processes at the Putatan Water Treatment Plant in Muntinlupa and the Water Reclamation Facility in Alabang.

Maynilad, servicing cities and municipalities in the west zone of the Greater Metro Manila, is managed by Maynilad Water Holdings Company Inc, a joint venture between Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC), DMCI Holdings Inc, and Marubeni Corporation. Learning Opportunity for Iloilo
Metro Pacific Iloilo Water (MPIW), a water distribution company in Iloilo, views the water education tour as a learning opportunity for the company, as well as the local government and the general public of Iloilo. It is also seen as a timely initiative, given the upcoming plans of the MPIW.
MPIW, as of date, services the following municipalities of Iloilo: Oton, Sta Barbara, Cabatuan, Maasin, San Miguel, Pavia, and Leganes. The company is a joint venture of Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) and Metro Pacific Water (MPW), the lead investor for all water and wastewater infrastructure projects of Metro Pacific Investment Corp (MPIC) outside Metro Manila.
Desalination Plant
It may be recalled that MPW signed an agreement with French company Suez to establish a desalination plant in Iloilo City, specifically in Ingore, La Paz. The project is identified as a medium term solution in addressing water shortage in the locality.
According to Suez, it will use ‘large scale seawater reverse osmosis’ to supplement Iloilo’s water demand.
Apart from the desalination plant, a waste to energy facility is also in the pipeline.
Waste to Energy
Metro Pacific Water (MPW), a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Water Investment Corp (MPIW), signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Iloilo City Government for the establishment of the Integrated Solid Waste Management Facility (ISWMF) in Ingore, La Paz. The facility is said to be able to process around 475 tons of solid waste per day. It will treat, recover, and convert waste into renewable energy with the guidance of the Department of Energy.
Moreover, the facility is projected to produce 3.5 megawatts of power that will augment the 10 megawatts requirement for the desalination plant.
