Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas, in a Facebook post, recently shared his message for 2020. The city mayor recalled the ‘pains, struggles, and challenges’ and narrated the accomplishments in his 6 months of office. Treñas mentioned the reactivation of the ‘beautification program’ on the city and the establishment of the Iloilo Festivals Foundation Inc.
“As we start the first day of the year 2020, I cannot help but remember the pains, struggles, and challenges I have gone through in the past year, as it was one of the most challenging years of my life. I could have not conquered it without the trust and support of family and friends, and the love of my fellow Ilonggos. For only 6 months in the office, we have already accomplished our short term plans and promises as we reactivated the Beautification Program, repaired our street lights and cleaned our city. We planted at least 10,000 trees all over the city to help fight climate change. We also formed the Iloilo Festivals Foundation Inc. to help level up the Dinagyang Festival celebration,” states Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas, “
Treñas also shared about the long term initiatives in coordination with the ‘Public Private Partnership and the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority.
“For our long term projects, we are already in the final stages in upgrading our markets, plazas through the help of PPP and TEIZA. The MICE campaign will be executed this year to attract more tourists, and will generate more job opportunities, and many more projects for our beloved city,” add Treñas.
It can be recalled that the City of Love has garnered several awards and citations in 2019. With this, Treñas shared his vision for Iloilo City in the years to come.
“All of these are dreams and plans for our city for us to be one of the top 3 highly urbanized cities by 2028. I am asking help from our fellow Ilonggos as the city government can only do so much. With everyone’s cooperation, we can do so much more and we will be able to achieve our dreams for our city. Together, let us bring Iloilo to the ‘next level’,”says Treñas.
