In a notice from the Office of the City Mayor, MORE Electric and Power Corporation is recognized as the legitimate distribution utility in Iloilo City. The notice affirmed that MORE Power is the bona fide distribution utility as the company has been issued authority to operate by the Energy Regulatory Commission and granted a legislative franchise from Congress.
“The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), in its letter dated 05 March 2020, issued a Provisional Authority (PA) to More Electric and Power Corporation (MORE) authorizing it to operate the distribution network in Iloilo City. The grant of the PA to MORE has effectively revoked the provisional Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) that the ERC granted to Panay Electric Company, Inc. (PECO), the former electric power franchisee in Iloilo City,” an excerpt from the Energy Regulatory Commission website.
“With the ERC’s issuance of a Provisional Authority to MORE, it is clear that MORE is the bona fide and legitimate distribution utility in Iloilo City. As such, MORE is authorized to implement the last approved distribution charges for the Iloilo consumers”, states ERC Chairperson and CEO Agnes VST Devanadera.
It can be recalled that Republic Act 11212 granted MORE Electric and Power Corporation a franchise to establish, operate, and maintain, for commercial purposes and in the public interest, a distribution system for the conveyance of electric power to the end-users in the City of Iloilo, Province of Iloilo, and ensuring the continuous and uninterrupted supply of electricity in the franchise area, signed into law February 14 and made effective March 6 of the same year.
