Northern Iloilo Towns Eyed for Renewable Energy


Three towns situated in the northern part of Iloilo Province are being eyed as sources of renewable energy – specifically the towns of Ajuy, Carles, and Concepcion. Moreover, the Provincial Government of Iloilo headed by Governor Arthur Defensor Jr, inked a memorandum of agreement with the Department of Energy (DOE) for the Development of Renewable Energy Applications Mainstreaming and Market Sustainability (DREAMS) Project.

Department of Energy’s DREAM Project, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Global Environment Facility (GEF) are eyeing the three aforementioned towns.

Whilst some mobilize solar energy, the Department of Energy Undersecretary Felix Fuentebella revealed that the DREAMS project aims to harness energy from wind, hydro, biomass, or geothermal with the aim of making it readily available for communities.
