Just recently, Malacañang shared that ABS CBN should have apologized to President Rodrigo Duterte a long time ago. According to the Palace, the broadcasting network has failed to air Duterte’s political ads during the 2016 campaign.
“I’m glad finally ABS-CBN has admitted its shortcomings to the President. Dapat noon pa nila ginawa,” states Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo after Chief Executive Officer Carlo Katigbak apologized during a Senate inquiry. Read more: ABS CBN should have apologized a long time ago.
“Alam niyo na may atraso kayo. May ginawa ba kayo? Yun nga yung tinatawag na hubris,” Panelo adds. Moreover, Panelo reveals that it is up to the President whether to accept the network’s apology or not.
Panelo, being a Chief Presidential Legal Counsel, stated that the Senate inquiry was a ‘waste of time’. The inquiry aims to investigate whether ABS CBN Corp violated the separation of powers among branches of government.
“They wasted two hours debating on something that they should have known already,” adds Panelo.
Katigbak, on the other hand, said that the network refunded Php 4 million to the President after the failure of accommodating Duterte’s ads. Katigbak also explained that local ads are only limited to two minutes per hour.
“On this issue, we acknowledge our shortcomings in our failure to release the refund in a timely manner,” states Katigbak. It can be recalled that President Duterte has already expressed his view on ABS CBN.
“Itong ABS, mag-expire ang contract ninyo. Mag-renew kayo, ewan ko lang kung may mangyari diyan. Kung ako sa inyo ipagbili niyo na ‘yan. Kasi ang mga Pilipino ngayon lang makaganti sa inyong kalokohan. And I will make sure that you will remember this episode of our times forever,” states President Rodrigo Duterte’s former statement regarding the broadcasting network.
