Protect the environment, prevent pandemics. ‘Transformative actions are urgently required’ is the message of David Boyd, Independent UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights and the Environment as the agency celebrates World Environment Day. Boyd accounts that at least 70% of emerging infectious diseases, such as COVID-19 are crossing from the wild to humans, and immediate action is required to protect the environment and human rights.
Boyd also stressed about issues on climate disruption, biodiversity loss, toxic pollution, and diseases transmitted to humans from animals.
