Public Transport Allowed in New Normal

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas, in a social media post, enumerated the guidelines for public transport in the ‘new normal’. He also acknowledged that taxi and jeepney will be allowed to operate starting May 18, Monday.

Treñas notes that former practices may be restored but everyone should remain vigilant as the Enhanced Community Quarantine is coming to an end. He also enumerated ideal practices for public utility vehicles.

For taxi drivers:

  • they are allowed to operate
  • they must provide alcohol or alcohol-based sanitizer
  • social distancing should be observed
  • they may cater passengers bound to the Province/Panay
  • all drivers should have undergone training

For jeepney drivers:

  • each jeepney should only have 8 passengers
  • only 1 passenger at the front seat is allowed
  • they must provide alcohol or alcohol-based sanitizer
  • they must have a divider
  • only 25% of jeepneys are allowed to operate (600 jeepneys)
  • all drivers should have undergone training
