Just recently, House Deputy Speaker Luis Raymund Villafuerte Jr. urged the Lopez family to just “sell ABS CBN” if they love their 11,000 workers. It may be recalled that the lower chamber’s legislative franchise committee has rejected the renewal of ABS CBN’s 25-year franchise.
Moreover, in an interview with ABS CBN, the Camarines Sur 2nd District Representative stated that he will support the franchise renewal of the broadcasting network under new management and ownership.
“My suggestion to the Lopez family, they just sell the corporation, and if they really love the 11,000 employees or more and if they really want to serve the Filipino people, ibenta na lang nila ‘yung kumpanya (they should just sell the company),” said House Deputy Speaker Luis Raymund Villafuerte Jr., in an article by the Inquirer.
He added that big corporations can provide capital to run ABS CBN if the Lopez family decides to sell the network. Moreover, the lawmaker added that he voted against the franchise renewal for two reasons: those relating to taxes and the citizenship of Eugenio ‘Gabby’ Lopez III, chairman emeritus of the broadcasting giant.
“This is just a suggestion. Tutal (Anyway), the Lopez family naman earned already billions and they have other companies. It is just a suggestion, of course. The decision is really entirely up to them,” Villafuerte added, also in the same article.
