Should a person who writes as a hobby pursue a professional writing career? Hi, thank you for airing that question. Well, I’ve been constantly saying this in my answers but please allow me to say this again: ‘if you don’t build your dreams, someone will hire you to build theirs’ – that is if you want to create a reputation for yourself, else you would want to remain anonymous in the literary shadows as a ghostwriter.
Should you pursue a professional writing career? The best person to answer that is YOU. What is your goal? What would you want to happen? There are also those who have shifted from being employed writers to freelance writers. I am currently working as a web content writer and content strategist in a telemarketing company and I have to say it is completely draining to constantly write about something you’re not interested in the first place. At the same time, I write for myself and for my blog during the weekends. It is exhausting, but relatively rewarding at the end of a long and tiring day.
This way I get to write to make a living and living the dream to write for myself.
If you think pursuing a professional writing career is best for you then there’s no reason for you not to give it a go. On the other hand, if you have your own blog or if you enjoy writing for yourself, keep at it. Bottom line, find your bliss.
I hope I answered your question.
