Iloilo Congresswoman Julienne Baronda recently filed House Bill 3074 in the House of Representatives. Once passed into law, the City of Love will officially have two congressional districts.
“Having two congressional districts is more advantageous to the city when it comes to projects,” stated Baronda in an interview. House Bill 3074 has been referred to the House Committee on Local Government. The said bill is an iteration of the previous bills filed by former congressman, now Mayor Jerry Treňas.
The two legislative districts will be comprised of the following: Jaro, Lapaz, and Mandurriao as one district, and City Proper, Molo, Arevalo, and Lapuz as another. The House Bill will also call for reapportioning of the Sangguniang Panglungsod totaling to 16 members, eight would come from each of the two new legislative districts.
Baronda claims that population was an issue in why she filed for the House Bill.
