In an update posted by Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas, 100 test kits donated by a group from Manila have arrived in Iloilo. To date, it is still awaiting approval from the Food and Drug Administration prior to use.
“We have to wait until FDA approves the use of the donated test kits we received. Because as of today, they just accredited these brands. We are trying to look for distributors so that the city can start testing. Even if we want to do things immediately, we have to follow the rules and guidelines given by FDA since they are the ones who check if kits are approved for commercial use. If any of you knows who distributes these kits, please PM me so that we can start buying kits for the city,” states Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas in a social media post.
The mayor also added that an accredited medical technologist will do the testing tomorrow, March 21.
Moreover, under the Department of Health’s updated decision tool, only the elderly, those with underlying conditions and those whose ailments have progressed to severe or critical would be tested for the virus.
